I chose this photo today because it kinda symbolises how slow life seems to be moving along at the minute……….at a snail’s pace. Just when we think things can’t possibly get any worse something comes along to prove us wrong. I feel like hiding away in my shell at the minute but I know all the crap (sorry) will still be waiting at our door when I emerge. *sigh*

This week’s theme for the Gallery over at Sticky Fingers is Animals.

This is an easy theme for me, it’s one of J’s favourite topics. He has an amazing connection with animals and tends to get on much better with animals than he does people. It still amazes me when I watch my beautiful little man, the child who hates to get his hands dirty, quite happily cover his hands with kangaroo, sheep or even elephant slobber whilst feeding them! :)

Whilst this is an easy theme, it’s not so easy to choose just one photo so here’s a few……..

One of J’s favourite things to do, whatever the weather is to feed the ducks

………………………. Or whatever else decides to say hello when we’re out at the local park :)

We don’t always have to go to the local park to see wildlife, as well as a geckos, frogs and a whole lot of different bugs we’re usually treated to frequent visits from these in our garden.

Since arriving in Australia early last year we’ve seen a whole host of beautiful Australian wildlife, most of which at Australia Zoo……………….

2 more sleeps!!!

2 more sleeps until our friends arrive from the UK. We can’t wait!

It’s going to be great to see some friendly faces from home :)

Hubby’s really looking forward to seeing his best friend from back home. Back in the UK he used to see S almost everyday, I think he’s missed this, although they do speak on Skype……………… Whilst it’s great catching up on Skype, let’s face it, it’s not the same, so hubby’s really looking forward to seeing him.

As for me, I just can’t wait to see a familiar friendly face  :)

I’m curious too, I’m wondering how J is going to react to seeing them and having them stay in our house. So far he’s very excited that they’re visiting but he’s not excited about seeing them, he’s excited because they’re bringing some of his favourite biscuits and crisps with them LOL :)

He’s also very excited about some of the trips that we have planned. They aren’t staying for too long and so we’re planning on fitting in as much as possible, starting ofcourse with the Zoo.

J is planning on showing them how to feed the kangaroos and he can’t wait to show our friends the other animals at the    zoo. We’re also planning trips to the Gold and Sunshine coasts and ofcourse a trip into the city for some shopping. I’m planning on taking J to the Museum whilst they have their shopping trip because shopping trips aren’t much fun for him ;)

We’re all very excited and can’t wait for them to arrive…………………….. 2 more sleeps!!!

Today has been a truly wonderful day.  Thursday this week J was supposed to go on a school excursion, for various reasons I chose not to send him but promised him an excursion of our own. Unfortunately he came down with a really snotty cold on Wednesday and I was still feeling abit under the weather so we postponed our excursion.

This morning we set off for Underwater World. We had a great time!  We went through the exhibits very quickly the first time round and after an hour we were already outside and looking for somewhere child friendly to have morning tea :) After a quick dose of caffeine and some water for J we set off into Underwater World for a second time. This time round we took a little longer, we spent around 20 minutes touching the sea stars alone!

We returned home early afternoon and hubby thought it would be fun to spend a couple of hours at the beach. It’s been a little while since we went and J was very excited at this idea.  J had great fun running in and out of the waves and playing with the sand.

All in all a great day, just what we needed :)

After a little thinking I’ve decided each month to have a theme of some sort for my 365 project. For the month of February I’ve decided to use the theme Nature.

Can you see the bird?

When we were in Australia last time we were here for Australia Day but didn’t really celebrate it because I’d already decided that I needed to go back home to England and we were really struggling with J.   This year Australia is really starting to feel like home. We’ve started to settle into life here in Queensland,  we’ve made some great new friends, J is enrolled in school and has friends too!

So this year we thought we’d “do Australia”.

It’s no secret that J loves animals so where else could we start our day but Australia Zoo.  We had great fun there as usual, it’s a very hands on place to visit and one of the rare times/places that he doesn’t mind getting dirty hands etc.

We stroked Koalas and a baby alligator, we saw the crocs, the tigers, the wombats, the elephants, the Tasmanian devils and the birds, we fed the farm animals and ofcourse the kangaroos and pretty much just had fun!  J even got a small treat from the gift shop.

We only spent the morning at the Zoo, I’ve learnt over time that a morning or an afternoon is a full day out for J and if we try to do much longer than that he enters meltdown heaven! :)

He almost fell asleep in the car on the way home which very rarely happens so when we got home he was still a little grumpy sleepy and decided to have a rest for abit whilst he watched his Cats and Dogs DVD.

After which we went into the garden for a play. J bounced on the trampoline, we kicked a ball and ofcourse, (since it is Australia Day),  we even tried our hand at cricket………..  J and I were both pretty useless at throwing the ball but he did manage to hit it a couple of times and so decided that he won.

After a busy day filled with fun and laughter bedtime arrived…….. unfortunately he knows it’s Prep tomorrow so started to have abit of a panic but managed to change the subject.  …………………… as for tomorrow, I’ll deal with it in the morning!

Goodnight everyone, I hope whatever you did today, you all had a great Australia Day!
