We’ve been back in Australia for 3 months now and the homesickness is starting to kick in. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad we’ve come back to Australia, It’s a beautiful country, we spend more time together as a family, Hubby is alot happier and even taking steps towards a new career, we have a better lifestyle, there are more job opportunities over here and so on…..I really do believe that J will have a better life over here and we as a family will have a better quality of life over here. However there are things that I miss and will probably always miss. There the obvious of course, like friends and family, (some more than others! lol), and familiarity. I miss being able to just get in the car and popping down the road to see family and friends. I miss seeing familiar things and places.

However I’m also starting to miss British tv, although I have to admit I do enjoy some of the Aussie shows and programmes and quite a few British programmes are shown here such as, The Bill, Gavin and Stacey, Top Gear, (much to hubby’s delight!), The Graham Norton
Show, Emmerdale etc etc…  Once we’ve bought a house, (which won’t be for a while), we might consider getting Foxtel, (Australia’s Sky tv), then we’ll have access to various other British programmes.

I’m even missing Tesco’s!!! There are lots of good shops over here but there isn’t anywhere that I have found where you can go, get everything you need/want in one shop, you have to go from one shop to the other which is almost impossible with J.

On the subject of shopping – I really miss certain foods, such as trifle, bagels, weetabix, sugar puffs, certain biscuits and sweets/chocolate (Galaxy, shortbread, lemon puffs etc….), various crisps, (smoky bacon, chipsticks, french fries etc…), cheeses, (sorry but not that keen on the Aussie cheeses), plus lots more.

I’m sure that in time I’ll get used to everything Australian and will gradually start to miss things less. In the meantime I’ll just have to deal with the homesickness. I’m sure it will pass eventually but I think a part of me will always miss England.

Has / Is anyone else gone through / going through a similar experience? How did / are you dealing with it?

Look forward to hearing everyone’s experience / thoughts. :)
